” Mario Chang, singing Alfredo, is an elegant lyric tenor, and his theatrical poise added much drama to the opera. Chang paused at the perfect moments, offering a moment’s hesitation before toasting with “Libiamo ne’ lieti calici”.

” Mario Chang applied his powerful, exciting tenor to Alfredo’s ardor and anger, his vocal force filling the auditorium. Later, he revealed a fine ability to sing tenderly in the opera’s finale."

” A real find was Mario Chang’s Cassio sung with a rich and wonderfully-phrased tenor. There is a real beguiling warmth to the voice and I have no doubt he will go far. "

" The musical program not only brings the highlights to which the audience is waiting. Of course, the aria from Rudolfo "La Bohème" ("Che gelida manina") or the finale of the third act of the "Gypsy Princess" (This is the love that stupid love "). No, the stars appear, and those who are newly joined the ensemble. The young tenor Mario Chang from Guatemala, since the new season here, is a favorite of the evening. Hovering at the end on a small stage even over the heads of the audience ...."

" Mario Chang led the Frankfurt Opera ensemble with his debut as Rudolfo. To have the young tenor from Guatemala, at the age of just 28 years, as a member of the opera company of director Bernd, is a real coup. Usually such a superb voice comes to an opera house only as a guest for a few performances..
Recently Mario competed in Placido Domingo's international singing competition "Operalia". Mario won the three top prizes: First Prize for male singer, the Zarzuela Prize and the Audience Award, among the winners of previous years are names like Joseph Calleja and Rolando Villazón.
Mario Chang's voice has the qualities of his famous tenor colleagues, in every way. His tenor has an almost baritone core and is capable of shining heights. The timbre is reminiscent of the young Domingo: virile, solid and thereby well focused.
Any talk of "hope" for a new Italian specialist, must be ruled out With Mario Chang: there is nothing more to hope - it's all there. After listening to his Rudolfo we look forward to hearing Mario Chang at Oper Frankfurt for many seasons to come performing the most important Tenor roles of his profession. {C}"

"Chang, who recently completed his third year in the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, also won the men’s audience prize, making him just the fourth singer to win the top two prices and the audience prize."
"Chang’s gripping rendition of “Ella mi fu rapita!” from Verdi’s “Rigoletto” elicited one of the biggest audience ovations of the evening and he backed it up with a heartfelt offering of “No puede ser” from Pablo Sorozabal’s “La tabernera del puerto” in the zarzuela portion."

"Best of all was Mario Chang, who brought firm, ringing tone to Nemorino’s display of bravado in “Esulti pur la barbara” and heartfelt pathos to “Adina, credimi”
